Social impact. It’s a term you’ve probably heard in the news, during class, or even in casual conversations with friends. But what does it really mean?
At its core, social impact is about creating positive change in your community. It doesn’t have to be groundbreaking—no one’s asking you to cure cancer (though props if you do). It can start with a spark of curiosity, a problem you’ve noticed, or something you simply wish were different. Big or small, impact starts with action.
That’s exactly what our workshop, Launching Change as a Berkeley Student, is all about. We’ll break down common myths—like the idea that you need a huge following or tons of money to make a difference. We’ll talk about why UC Berkeley is one of the best places to launch change, with its culture of activism, innovation, and support. And yes, we’ll have a fun, hands-on activity to get you thinking about how you can start creating impact right where you are.
As members of Consult Your Community, one of Berkeley’s only pro-bono, nonprofit consulting clubs, we’ve helped aspiring chefs gain traction, supported minority-owned businesses in building an online presence, and empowered students to use their skills for good.
As current college students, we’ll share real stories—what worked, what didn’t, and what we wish we knew. Whether you’re a future founder or just curious about making a difference, we’re here to help you take that first step.
We can’t wait to see you on August 2nd!
